HICE ON THE HOME FRONT
Dear Friends,

I had another awesome week at home meeting with constituents to discuss policy, casework issues, and the vision for America’s future. On Thursday, I visited Fort Gordon, home of the Cyber Center of Excellence, for a full day of briefings kicked off by a major milestone. I was honored to join Lt. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, Commander of U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER), for the dedication of ARYCYBER’s new headquarters. With Army Under Secretary James McPherson, Gen. Paul Nakasone, who serves as commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency, Maj. Gen. Neil Hersey, retired Sen. Saxby Chambliss, and a few of my colleagues, we celebrated a state-of-the-art 336,000-square-foot facility dedicated to serving as the epicenter of our nation’s warfighting in cyberspace.

Created a decade ago, the Army Cyber Command was spread across Army installations in three states before consolidating at Fortitude Hall, its new home at Fort Gordon. I’m pleased to see the cyber explosion that’s happening in the metro Augusta area. With the relocation of U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Gordon and the state’s investment of the Georgia Cyber Center in downtown Augusta, the region is poised to meet the growing need for cybersecurity talent in our state, the nation, and across the globe.

TAKING A HEALTHY INTEREST
Last Wednesday, I traveled to Oconee Valley Healthcare Center where they hosted me at its Greensboro clinic. Their mission is to provide cost-effective and accessible medical, dental, pharmacy, and wellness services to the community. During my visit, CEO Dave Ringer shared how the clinic is responding to COVID-19 by providing testing and telemedicine appointments in addition to office visits to community members who are experiencing symptoms.

Later in the day, I toured another wellness center in the district, the Bee Well Clinic in Milledgeville. The clinic, which is part of Community Health Care Systems Inc. (CHCS), provides healthcare and transportation services to Baldwin County students, district employees, and their families. Thank you to School Superintendent Dr. Noris Price, CHCS CEO Carla Belcher, CHCS COO Kavanaugh Chandler, and other community partners for hosting me. I commend you and healthcare professionals throughout the district for the outstanding work that you do every day!

HICE HEADLINER

Each month, I recognize one outstanding local citizen who goes above and beyond to help their neighbors and strengthen the community. This month’s Hice Headliner is Della Smith of Hancock County.

She is the founder of Neighbors Caring About Neighbors, which is a local organization aimed at blessing others. Among the nonprofit’s many initiatives include the installation of "blessing boxes" holding items such as non-perishables, books, and diapers, for those in need and the provision of school uniforms for students returning to school.

Della has worked tirelessly in her community to ensure that seniors are taken care of during these unprecedented times. She has arranged for food delivery to elderly households, drivers to take patients to and from doctor’s offices, and even landscapers to cut grass for those who are unable to do so themselves. Additionally, Della is working with the Historical Preservation Commission to develop "Dream Streets" for downtown Sparta. The initiative will place signs with quotes of people’s dreams in the store fronts of empty buildings in hopes of inspiring residents to actually put their dreams into place and have more store fronts occupied.

We are incredibly honored to recognize Della Smith for the impact that she makes each and every day in Hancock County. She is truly making her community a better place.

GEORGIA IS NUMBER ONE AGAIN!

For the seventh year in a row, Georgia has been named America's “Top State for Doing Business.”  This announcement attests to Georgia’s commitment to lower taxes and decreasing government regulations. Our conservative, economic environment has laid a prosperous foundation for not only our children but also our grandchildren.

Job creators and entrepreneurs see a bright future in Georgia and that is due in no small part to the strong private-public sector collaboration. Earning this honor seven consecutive times speaks to Georgia’s business-friendly environment and our commitment to attract industry leaders around the world as well as help homegrown small businesses succeed. Georgia’s commitment to economic recovery will continue to attract businesses and companies and serve as an example to the rest of our country.

DON'T FORGET TO CLAIM YOUR EIP
A reminder to folks to not miss out on the Economic Impact Payment (EIP). The IRS will be mailing out letters to nine million Americans who typically don't file federal income tax returns, that may be eligible for, but have not registered to claim an EIP.  Recipients are urged to use the “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info” on IRS.gov by October 15 to receive their payment by the end of the year. Mailing will begin on September 24.

Those unable to access the Non-Filers tool may submit a simplified paper return following the procedures described in the Economic Impact Payment FAQs on IRS.gov. The registration deadline for non-filers to claim an Economic Impact Payment through the Non-Filers tool is Oct. 15, 2020. People can also wait until next year and claim it as a credit on their 2020 federal income tax return by filing in 2021.

Beginning two weeks after they register, folks can track the status of their payment using the Get My Payment tool, available only on IRS.gov. For more details, see IRS news release IR-2020-203, or in Spanish, IR-2020-203SP.

For the remainder of the week, I’ll be in the district meeting with many of you and visiting businesses as we discuss how I can better serve the community.

As always, I’m humbled to serve you in Congress, and my team and I are here to help. Please contact my office with any questions, comments, or concerns. Be sure to follow me on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram to keep track of upcoming legislation and events!
