Demanding Accountability at the IRS
Dear Friends,

This week, the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing examining the state of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I know from speaking with folks from around the Georgia 10th District that many of you have run into serious delays with the IRS this year.

The IRS claims that the agency has been “starved” of funding in recent years. Over the last decade, however, the IRS has blown hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on lavish conventions, Star Trek-themed “training” videos, and – worst of all – targeting conservative groups. The IRS has received billions in funding to update and modernize the agency’s IT systems, some of which are several decades old. Unfortunately, all this valuable funding has failed to produce meaningful results.

The American taxpayer should not be asked to continue to blindly invest their hard-earned money into technology updates that may never happen. Millions of Americans are even now still waiting on tax returns and stimulus checks as the agency struggles to catch up with the backlog from the pandemic.

If you’re having difficulties with the IRS, please contact my office as we stand ready to help if we can! Be assured I’ll continue to demand accountability and improve the system on my end here in Washington.

It has never been easier to complete the census. Your responses are both safe and secure. Be counted so our communities count!

This year folks can complete it online or by phone (844-330-2020). Do it today! As always if you have any questions, my staff and I are here to serve you! Please contact us and let us know how we can help you.

Academy Application Deadline

One of my favorite things I get to do in this job is to help 10th District students to attend one of our nation’s U.S. Service Academies through my nomination process. Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

If you would like to pursue an appointment to one of our prestigious U.S. service academies, my deadline for  nomination applications is fast-approaching. My office must receive your completed application packets by Friday, October 23, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Click here to download the application. And if you’d like to learn more, sign up for my quarterly Service Academy newsletter. This email newsletter has helpful advice for those applying for a nomination, reminders about important upcoming dates, and encouraging updates from former service academy nominees.
