Hice Encourages Residents to Attend Free Workshops

Five Seminars Offered at Saturday’s Job Fair

Thomson, GA – Congressman Jody Hice (GA-10) today announced that the 2019 McDuffie County Job Fair, hosted in partnership with the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce, will feature free workshops designed to equip participants for the job-seeking process. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., five seminars covering three topics will be offered in 20 to 25-minute sessions throughout the morning.

“If you’re looking for a job or a career change, Saturday’s job fair is an outstanding opportunity to establish employer contacts, gather information, and explore career options,” said Congressman Hice. “In addition to networking, this year’s event will also offer valuable workshops that are free and open to the public. I encourage anyone who’s interested to come and learn about the hiring process at these organizations and get acquainted with the possibilities available to you.”

The job fair will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Thomson-McDuffie Campus of Augusta Technical College, 388 Tech Drive, Thomson, GA 30824. Below is a schedule of events for the day’s activities:

9:00 a.m. – Doors Open/Event Begins

10:00 a.m. – Workshop: Skills to Pay the Bills

Jessica Shine, Department Chair for Social and Behavioral Sciences at Augusta Technical College, will share what soft skills every worker should have and explain how these skills are important to success in the workplace.

10:30 a.m. – Workshop: Resume Rescue

WorkSource East Central Georgia will provide tips on creating a resume that is polished, perfected, and mistake-free so that job seekers stand out as preferred candidates.

11:00 a.m. – Workshop: Skills to Pay the Bills

One of the most important things I do as a U.S. Representative is help constituents work through issues with federal agencies. Although I cannot override the decisions made by a federal agency, I can often intervene on a constituent’s behalf to get answers to questions, find solutions, or just cut through the red tape.
