Where can I find answers to most commonly asked questions about filing for my taxes?

The Interactive Tax Assistant (ITA) is a tool that provides answers to several tax law questions specific to your individual circumstances. Based on your input, it can determine if you have to file a tax return, your filing status, if you can claim a dependent, if the type of income you have is taxable, if you're eligible to claim a credit, or if you can deduct expenses.  Click here to utilize the ITA or to access the most commonly asked questions about filing your taxes.

The IRS also has a 24-hour taxpayer hotline: 1-800-829-1040.

Who can I talk to about problems like liens, back taxes, penalties, etc.?

The Taxpayer Advocate 24-Hour Toll-Free Hotline is: 1-877-777-4778.  Read more information about the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

The best resource for general IRS information is the agency’s official website: www.irs.gov.  As always, if you have additional questions, feel free to call my office.

Help with a Federal Agency

One of the most important things I do as a U.S. Representative is help people with federal problems. Although I cannot override the decisions made by a federal agency, I can often intervene on a person’s behalf to answer questions, find solutions, or just cut through the red tape. Please know that I cannot force an agency to act in favor of a constituent. However, I can help communicate the circumstances and request that they take appropriate actions to assist you.
